Monument to Chyngyz Aitmatov
Bronze, 230 cm
Moscow, Atrium of the M. Rudomino Library of Foreign Literature
The monument was unveiled on October, 24, during events dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the writer.
The monument was erected in the yard of the Library of Foreign Literature, where is the gallery of sculptural portraits of writers and public figures, including St. John Paul II, Leonardo da Vinci, Charles Dickens, Ferdowsi, James Joyce, Heinrich Heine and other prominent figures of world culture. There is also a monument to Academician D. S. Likhachov, sculpted by George Frangulyan.
According to sculptor, he felt pleasure to work on the monument to Aitmatov as George Frangulyan knew the writer personally. “It is my duty both to him and to his literature. I remember how glad I was to read his breathtaking things when I was a boy. Chyngyz Aitmatov is the brightest representative of literature, an absolute classic.”
